Historical Shilling House Located within the North Shilling Historic District in Blackfoot, Idaho, The Shilling House was constructed in 1890 by Dr. William Behle for his new bride, Anna. The two story Italianate style brick home with Queen Anne detailing features large box bay windows with stained glass panes. The home was constructed of locally kilned brick, squared nails and plaster fortified with horse hair! The original brass chandeliers, installed when electric light bulbs were the newest rage, still grace the spacious Front Parlor. Sold to Isaac Smith, a local businessman, at the turn of the century, the house became the property of his son, Arthur (Skinny) Smith of Blackfoot in the 1930's. Arthur's wife, Zeta Boyle Smith, served as one of the communities most respected educators and elementary school principals for many years.

In 1964, 81 N. Shilling Avenue became home to Bernard and DeLoris Henscheid and their nine children. Their eldest daughter, Angelen, with her husband, Eugene Parrish, acquired the house in 1990 and have carefully restored the home to its original Victorian elegance, while including modern conveniences and a new fully appointed kitchen. The expanded Italianate sun-porch and fully landscaped yard offer an elegant location for wedding receptions, reunions, business meetings and dinner parties. Listed in the Register of National Historic Places, the Shilling House serves Blackfoot and the surrounding communities with an atmosphere unlike any other public facility in Southeastern Idaho.
